1. Tell us something about yourself and your company.

Harpreet Bachher, an Architect by qualification started the Wedding films brand THE WEDDING STORY in 2010. Within a year of its conception, The Wedding Story rose to be one of the top wedding film & photography companies in the world.

The 50 members strong group films about 35-40 high profile destinations weddings per year and have offices in Mumbai, London, and Boston. Known for its state-of-the-art cinematography, unique concepts of photography and cutting-edge editing, it’s on the wish list of every bride.

With over 1.2 million followers on various platforms of social media (Youtube, Facebook & Instagram) it’s video portfolio boasts of nearly a hundred million film views with fans all across the world.

2. What’s your competitive advantage and why can’t it be copied?

We are simple story-tellers and try and tell the unique stories of the bride and groom through visually cinematic frames and use the years of expertise to capture the right moments and expressions.

Although anything can be copied these days, the hand-picked elements and the personal touch to the films give us a competitive advantage.


3. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far?

The first challenge – Hiring people with proper education in the field as photographers, directors, and cinematographers. Secondly, Candid Wedding Photography is relatively young as a profession so client awareness is less.

Raising the bar and making proper contracts and educating the clients in various sections of this field was again very challenging but we have nailed it now.

4. What are your expansion plans?

We are already in London and Boston as we are happy with that for now


5. Tell our audience more about your failures? How should one bounce back?

Practice, research, practice, and learn new things. Keep up with technology and always keep striving to do something new irrespective of criticism.

Failures are natural but how you react to your failures builds your character and strengthens the brand as a whole. Not all your films will be liked. Carry on breaking the boundaries and your time will surely come.


6. How do you define success?

Success is an illusion. Spiritual contentment is our definition of success as a team. In terms of materialism, success is the happiness of our clients and those genuine smiles on their faces when they see their precious memories in a beautiful film.

If you can sleep peacefully after a creative project, your truly happy, and such happiness is the foundation of success.

7. What would advice to someone starting up and particularly to women entrepreneurs?

Teamwork is key to select the right people for your journey. Work hard on your content and don’t worry about social media attention. Word of mouth is the best publicity. Treat your clients by getting into their shoes and then once you understand them, treat them like family.

Women are naturally better suited to this job as they have better emotional intelligence and understand the finer aspects better than men so my advice to women is that they train themselves to the best technical education for this job and the rest will come naturally.
